Between the World and Me Paper Topics
Between the World and Me Paper TopicsThe book Between the World and Me are about author David Foster Wallace's struggle with bipolar disorder. It was published in 2020. I read it while doing a book review for a friend. The title is an obvious play on words to indicate the mental illness and the theme of the book. When the American Psychiatric Association published their 'Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders' a decade ago, mental health disorders were listed. As far as I can tell, the first condition to be written about is 'bipolar disorder.' That article was authored by Dr. Richard Gardner. He's the Editor-in-Chief.From my reading, the title of Between the World and Me are a reference to how bipolar disorder affects a person. Many people live a normal life with this condition and are able to go through their daily lives without any noticeable problems. However, some people have bouts of mania and depression that might make them seem like a zombie.People with bi polar disorder tend to have great insight. They're aware of the difference between their periods of depression and mania. These can last from a few hours to several days. During this period, they feel like nothing will ever work out.The most interesting part about the book for me is that many people with this condition don't know they have it. The symptoms are not always obvious, so people with this condition tend to self-diagnose themselves. There's a lot of going on in this country.According to the American Psychological Association, people with this condition are often misdiagnosed by doctors. If you've been diagnosed with some form of mental illness, you should try to look into alternative methods of treatment. There are many ways to treat it. The sooner you get on the right track, the better.Between the World and Me is an allegory about what goes on in a man's mind when he starts having those periods of manic depression. He starts thinking that he's lost his mind. This will set him up for some very interesting times. He'll start buying objects he doesn't need and will become obsessed with his new purchases.I wish I could say that the book was good. But it was mostly bad. I really didn't enjoy the subject matter. I tried to stay away from paper topics.
